Our Ullswater Cottages are surrounded by some of the most magnificent scenery in the Lake District. Please find below more information on the local area. We also have separate pages on Ullswater and Helvellyn.
Patterdale is a small peaceful hamlet at the southern end of Ullswater. The village straddles Goldrill Beck which flows down to Ullswater. There are a huge range of walks from the village, including of course Helvellyn. You can also venture up Place Fell, head to the majestic Angle Tarn, or simply wander along the lake shore towards Howtown. The village has a pub, The White Lion Inn, a hotel as well as a village store and post office. You can also buy Mohair and Herdwick wool socks, rugs and throws from the Crookabeck Farm Shop. To see more please click the button to the right. Crookabeck is also home to Natural at Heart, who offer a range of Holistic Therapies and Treatments. Why not treat yourself to a relaxing massage when staying at our cottages. Our guests receive a 10% discount on their first treatment. See more on Ullswater Pampering from Hazel.
Half a mile to the north of Patterdale, Glenridding was built around the Greenside mine which is now the Helvellyn YHA. The world famous Ullswater Steamers sail all year round from the pier to Howtown and Pooley Bridge. Glenridding is also home to the Glenridding Sailing Centre, which provides a base for many of the water borne activities on Ullswater.
Glenridding has several pubs, including The Travellers Rest which is just 5 minutes from our Glenridding Cottages. There are also 2 general stores selling a wide range of food and beverages, a newsagent, cash point machine (in Sharmans store), The Glenridding Gallery, several cafes and restaurants, two hotels as well as the Ullswater Tourist Information centre.
